SOLIDWORKS Thermal Simulation
Solidworks thermal simulation is the analysis of a body for heat loads and we will try to find the induced temperature. Thermal simulation is required for every product which is affected by external or internal heat.
If a body is placed near an external thermal condition then the body may be deformed due to this external heat and the temperature variation will be caused by the low product quality.
We will try to thermal analysis on the vessel and will find the maximum and minimum temperature. However, the temperature variation always depends upon the material type.
So we will also try to evaluate the temperature variation on multiple types of material and also optimize the design.
We will perform thermal simulation on cast alloy steel vessel and aluminum fin.

Design of Vessel
Volumetric Properties:
Mass:7.56257 kg
Volume:0.00756257 m^3
Density:1,000 kg/m^3
Weight:74.1132 N
Material Selection
Once the design is completed then select the material for each body. Currently, we are using cast alloy steel for vessels and water for the heating liquid.
Apply Heat Loads
Once the design and material selection completed we will proceed for heat loads. heat load can be many types like thermal convection, radiation, temperature and heat power, etc.
We will use the mode of heat transfer from solid to liquid is called convection and then apply heat load of 100W at the bottom of the vessel.

Basically three types of heat transfer mode,
- Conduction: When heat is transferred from solid to solid is called conduction.
- Convection: When heat is transferred from solid to fluid then it is called convection, But the condition is that the fluid molecules should be in motion.
- Radiation: When heat is transferred from solid/ fluid to air or in nearby environment then is called radiation.
Heat Power: The amount of heat transferred from one to another body. The unit is calculated in watt.
Meshing
Meshing is a very important process for thermal simulation. In this process, the body will be discretized in multiple elements and every element have multiple nodes. So that the temperature value will calculate on each element’s node.
Once the material, loads, and meshing will complete then run the simulation and find the result.
we can see the maximum and minimum temperature on vessel and also able to find the water temperature at every location.
Find more simulation on different 3D models like here you can see the thermal simulation on fins with using Solidworks thermal simulation.
